Karise Eden has taken out the first season of The Voice Australia. The 19-year-old soul singer charmed the nation with her hard luck story, distinctive rasp, and powerful vocal chops. This performance of “Stay With Me Baby” on the grand final was one of her best.

Karise was always good, but under Seal’s guidance she learned to use her instrument to great effect. This performance shows Karise playing with light and shade, building the song before letting it rip in those gut-wrenching choruses.

Something tells me this Australian songstress won’t be another flash in the pan reality TV starlet. Move over Adele; there’s a new queen of soul!
