If you’re ever asked to commentate on the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony then it would be a good idea to conduct some research into each country being represented.
Sadly, NBC’s Katie Couric appears to have either skipped this step or believed everything she read online.
Welcoming the Dutch team to the stadium, Couric explains that the reason the Dutch are so good at ice skating is because Amsterdam is full of canals and oh-my-God-what-is-she-talking-about.
Yes, Amsterdam has lots of canals. But Amsterdam is just one city in the Netherlands, and Amsterdammers do not spend their winters speed skating to the office. In fact, they’re more likely to cycle.
