Idol competitions the world over tend to attract particular types of girls. The reality talent quests are havens for pop princesses and soul divas, so when someone that breaks this mould steps up, it’s even more startling.

Enter Canadian Idol’s resident oddball, Montana Martin Iles. Looking like she’s taken fashion tips from fellow shaggy-haired Idol, Liam Styles Chang, this quirky Quebec native is a breath of fresh air.

The feisty teen impressed the judges and the audience with her intense take on The Used’s “The Bird and the Worm.” The alternative rock anthem was an unlikely choice for the first voting round of the competition, but that’s precisely why we like her.
