Gord Downie, the lead singer and songwriter of The Tragically Hip, has died from an aggressive form of brain cancer at the tender age of just 53.
Downie was a big deal in Canada, and often cited as the unofficial poet laureate of the country. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau led the tributes.
I’ll be honest, I had never heard of Gord Downie until now. He was clearly extremely famous in Canada, but his legend never really reached outside of his home country.
Still, with his early passing I’m sure I’m not alone in seeking out some of his and The Tragically Hip’s music. It’s just a shame his talents have passed on with him.
