Natalie Portman didn’t do very much at the Golden Globes, but one of the lines she uttered ruined a whole category for the people nominated.
Portman was presenting the award for Best Director alongside Ron Howard when she said, “And here are the all-male nominees”.
This felt a little unnecessary to me. People were wearing black, and some of the speeches were about sexual harassment and gender issues. So this surely could have gone unsaid.
I’m sure Portman thought it would just be a clever aside, but imagine how the nominees, including Guillermo Del Toro, who ended up winning, must have felt.
