Swedish scientists (bless their hearts) are currently working on what they call the “anti-smoking vaccine” which, they think, will help cigarette addicts quit.

According to the World Health Organization, this could possibly save 5.5 million lives annually.

The shot doesn’t actually eliminate nicotine in the body, but instead enlarges the molecules so that they can’t reach the central nervous system. This means that the “nicotine high” that smokers experience will be eliminated.

However, I see a major flaw in this kind of method. By preventing the nicotine high, smokers will no longer feel pleasure. Heavy smokers, especially those that smoke packs a day, will surely go through painful withdrawal symptoms.

I’m not saying that it won’t work. Hell, it’s almost a sure-fire way to help people quit cold turkey. But I can’t see this becoming too popular because of the pain. It’s important to note that, like all drugs, the psychological addiction still remains.
