Ever since Twilight has became a hit, those other teen vampire books have become cool again. Such is the case with L.J. Smith’s Vampire Diaries series which started more than a decade before Stephenie Meyer was even dreaming about her book.

The Vampire Diaries TV adaptation hits The CW on September 10th, but until then feel free to watch it’s dimwitted prequel web spin-off. Or not…

As good as the Vampire Diaries promos look, ‘A Darker Truth,’ unfortunately, is (so far) one of the worst web series I’ve come across. If using actors that aren’t cast in the actual show and shoddy camera work aren’t enough to deter you from the series, there’s always the over-obvious product placement.

To make matters worse, TV cast members like Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev only make an appearance via MacBook clips and cell phone photos. It couldn’t be more obvious that Kevin Williamson (who writes the Vampire Diaries TV series) isn’t affiliated with this web spin-off.

‘A Darker Truth’ Part 1

Here is the first train-wreck webisode. Thankfully, only three more are planned to be released every Tuesday; which makes the series end a week after the Vampire Diaries season premiere.
