Star Trek is back, with the launch trailer for the new film from J.J. Abrams having arrived on the Web. It’s called Star Trek Into Darkness and the trailer suggests it’s going to be epic.
Most of the action looks to take place on Earth, which is threatened by an as-yet-unknown villain. This would be a definite change of pace for the series, which usually only features Earth as a peaceful colony.
Most people suspect Benedict Cumberbatch is portraying Khan, making this a kind a Wrath Of Khan redux. Another theory has Cumberbatch bringing Gary Mitchell to life; Mitchell is a former crew member who goes mad after being bestowed with God-like powers.
All in all the Star Trek Into Darkness trailer asks more questions than it answers. But that’s a good thing at this early stage. I’m sure more details will be revealed with future trailers as the May 2013 release date approaches.
