This is Stone Rollin’ the titular track from Rapheal Saddiq’s new album of the same name. It’s actually his fourth solo studio album, so why the hell haven’t I heard of him before?
I hadn’t heard of Raphael Saadiq until today, and now, after only having heard Stone Rollin’ a couple of times through, I’m hooked. The voice, the style, the combination of old skool and new skool, it all fits together seamlessly.
Saadiq used to be a member of soul trio Tony! Toni! Tone!, who broke new ground in the 1980s. He’s now a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who is gradually building a worldwide audience.
Saadiq is one of the many artists performing at the 2011 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and if his live show is anything close to his recorded performances then attendees are in for a veritable treat.
