A few days ago, I posted a video of Ricky Gervais being interviewed by someone in their pants. And I mentioned how Gervais interacts with certain people, including his editor Nigel. This is the video which explains who Nigel is and why Ricky calls him ‘Pigboy’.
This, believe it or not, is an extra on the DVD of the first series of Extras, the follow-up to The Office written and directed by Gervais and Stephen Merchant. It’s called Taping Nigel and shows what Gervais got up to when not filming.
Nigel is/was just the editor for the show, but Gervais decided he would be his plaything and set about filming his interactions with him. Which, as you can see, includes turning Nigel into ‘Pigboy’ just by using Sellotape.
It’s hilariously funny viewing but I do feel a little sorry for Nigel. There he is doing his job and he suddenly finds himself turned into Gervais’ gimp for the day. I’m not sure if that’s a privilege to be proud or utterly ashamed of.
