Selena Gomez is a 17-year-old actress and singer that is clearly only famous in the U.S. Because I’m British and had never heard of her until I saw and heard this video. And I’m impressed.
Gomez is best known for playing Alex Russo on the Disney Channel show, Wizards of Waverly Place. However, she is signed to Hollywood Records and singing looks to be where her heart is now at.
Naturally is throwaway pop but that’s necessarily a bad thing. It’s ultra-catchy and sure to appeal to kids. Oh, and old men who like perving over young pop tartlets like Miley Cyrus (and Britney Spears before she let herself go).
The video is being talked up as something original yet I see nothing there that hasn’t been done a thousand times before. But Gomez is great to look at and the song fits with the visuals well enough that it works.
NB: This video is likely to disappear as record labels are a little precious about music videos.
