In a night of solid performances, Stan Walker was the only Australian Idol contestant on ’80s night to take his act into the stratosphere. He did it with a little “Purple Rain.”

I must admit, I was a little nervous when I heard Stan was taking on Prince’s epic. Could such a masterpiece translate into the condensed Idol format? This video gives us the answer; with Stan at the helm, yes it can.

With so many contestants giving performances that are simply adequate, Stan is one of the few stepping up and saying he wants to win. I’m not quite sure who’ll leave us next week, but I think Stan’s guaranteed his place in the competition.
