If you haven’t been catching up with the cool kids by religiously watching American Idol this season, you aren’t missing much. Audition wise, there have been some pretty bad singers this year.

So naturally, an audition like Tasha Layton’s is a nice refreshing change of pace. Here she does a great job of covering a Joss Stone song.

Not only is Tasha a great singer, but she’s also a minister for a church. Joss Stone is known for her soul-singing and Tasha manages to suit her song “Baby Baby Baby” just fine. I wish we could have heard more of her range, but the judges cut her off for time.

Is Tasha top 10 material? Given the religious affiliation of some of the past contestants, she might be. It’s a known fact that Ruben Studdard, Daughtry, and Jordin Sparks all have a huge Christian following.
