Valentine’s Day is horrible for single people, who would rather not have to see loved up couples flashing their happiness around willy-nilly. And even most sensible couples realize it’s a load of old baloney.

But this Google Doodle, an animation showing how to win a girl’s heart – not by giving them flowers, chocolate, and teddy bears, but by actually being interested in them and what they like – is sweet nonetheless.

I’ll be making an effort tonight, but anyone who takes Valentine’s Day TOO seriously needs their head examining. Being with someone should mean more than just one day every year. Or is that an old-fashioned way of looking at it?
