I am not really one to talk, given I have never played a single online multiplayer game in my entire life (plenty of flash games and offline RPGs).
But, that being said, this looks like a great way to get into the MMO scene and learn what it’s all about.
Sure, it’s a little cutesy compared to a lot of games, but it ‘feels’ safe, which is what you need for a learning environment.
