Hollywood veteran Wayne Wang, best known for directing movies like Maid in Manhattan and The Joy Luck Club, has just released his latest independent flick ‘The Princess of Nebraska’ on YouTube for free.

So far the movie has gained 181,100 views in only its first week; a triumph compared to the typical art house release. You can see the trailer above and the full movie below.

So why release the movie online? As it turns out this film is a sort of a giant promo for another Magnolia Pictures release by Wang that is currently in select theaters called A Thousand Years of Good Prayer.

As Wang said, “I asked the guys at Cinetec (promotion Co.), ‘How can we show these two films together?’ And they said, ‘Let’s have YouTube do Princess and show the other one in theaters.” In a sense, if Wang was a music artist, this would be his double-album.

Those looking forward to another Maid in Manhattan may be shocked by this film’s gritty realism. After all, the film is about a young Chinese exchange student Sasha (played by the beautiful Ling Li) on her quest to get an abortion. The film is not currently rated by the MPAA.

‘The Princess of Nebraska’ Full Streaming Movie

This is the full movie, which, remarkably has been seen more times than the actual trailer. For those that prefer the “high quality” option see the link at the very bottom. For now, Magnolia only owns the licensing rights for the United States, which is why some international viewers may be unable to see it.
