“Soleil Moon Frye insists that she still has ‘Punky Power!’
“She was just eight years old when she starred as the title character in the sit-com Punky Brewster. The series ran from 1984 to 1988, and whenever the title character needed to tackle a tough situation, she’d yell out her mantra, “Punky Power!”
“Now, the series is back, with Frye reprising the title role, nearly four decades after the original debuted.
“Frye admits that she’s been continually pushing to bring the character back to the air, saying, “I have been wanting to bring Punky back forever, because I always said if I was 88-years-old and people still call me Punky, I will be thrilled by it. This amazing Punky is such a part of me, I don’t know where I end and she begins because we are so much the same.””
