This video may be a decade old (hence the Ricky Martin and Limp Bizkit references), but sadly, it remains relevant. The radio still sucks today.

Or has it always sucked?

People often argue (as Zappa does) that the music in the 60’s and 70’s (the classic rock era) was better. Well, what about the infamous genre of disco? It’s not secret that music executives have always marketed crappy music. As Chuck D. points out, what’s mainstream is nearly always packaged like “Frito Lays chips.”

It’s interesting to note that since this clip was released, the internet grown enormously and made it possible for any kid with basic computer skills to illegally download music. Although his tone is pessimistic, Dick Dale at 6:08 seems to have the industry figured out- or at least how it was in the 90’s.

Record companies may still exist, but the era of selling colorful plastic discs with a few good songs on them is over.
