With her song New Soul featured in the MacBook Air ad, Israel’s Yael Naim is one of the hottest new singers in the world right now.

In fact, Yael is so cool she can make a song by pop tragic Britney Spears sound good.

In this unlikely cover version, Yael gives Britney’s vapid hit Toxic a makeover, with haunting vocals and a killer piano solo. The recognizable riff is unchanged, but it’s easy to forget this is the same song that shimmied its way up the charts in 2004.

This is a dramatic departure from the fun folky style of New Soul, but somehow it all works.
