These guys are insane. I would be scared to death if I were caught in a wave this big, and wouldn’t have a clue what to do! I went to the big beach in Maui once and had a hard time getting into the water, and the waves were a tenth the size of these.
These are the Billabong Ride of the Year nominees, and the top five under consideration were Manoa Drollet, Ian Walsh, Shane Dorian, Carlos Burle, Michael Brennan. Each wave was equally gnarly, but who would you guess took the winnings?
My vote would have been for Ian Walsh, but Shane Dorian somehow walked away with the winnings, despite the obvious crash at the end. Perhaps he earned kudos points for that?!
