Amazing Flying Penguins Video | Creative BBC iPlayer Commercial

33 sec read

The history books need to be re-written. A large colony of penguins appear to be flying in this video.

If it still isn’t obvious to you, the above commercial is really a fake to promote the iPlayer. In fact, it aired on April 1st (April Fools day) on the BBC last year. The man you see who appears to be a wildlife expert is actually Terry Jones- one of the members of the Monty Python comedy team.

You have to hand it to the BBC, this was a great fake. It wasn’t until the penguins flew to “South America” that I realized it wasn’t real. In order to make this clip, animators inserted CGI penguins in stock footage and then inserted Terry Jones. You can’t even tell, but every single shot of him was done with a green screen.

Let’s hope BBC puts as much effort into this year’s April Fools joke as well.
