Ell and Nikki have given Azerbaijan its first Eurovision Song Contest title with their romantic ballad “Running Scared.”
It was classic Eurovision, with pretty people, cheesy white costumes, and some stunning pyrotechnic rain that got the pair over the line. They beat out Italy, in their return to the competition, and Sweden who placed third.
I’m not sure I’ll be singing this song through 2011 the way I was with last year’s winner “Satellite” but it is very pretty, and not quite as over-the-top as many of Eurovision’s other victors.
Thanks to the win we’ll be off to Baku next year to see what kind of party the Azerbaijanis can throw!
