I’m really not a big fan of insects and creepy-crawlies. They freak me out, especially the larger ones. Which is why I’m glad I live in the U.K. where we don’t really have any life-threatening species.
One of the scariest-looking has to be the Praying Mantis, an insect that looks like a stick always ready to pounce on its prey. And while it wouldn’t attack a human, I’d still rather keep my distance, thank you very much.
This guy doesn’t keep his distance. In fact, he keeps one as a pet and lets it saunter around on top of his desk and even on his computer. I suppose even insects need regular exercise.
This video shows the Praying Mantis trying to catch the mouse pointer on this guy’s Apple Mac screen. It’s a persistent little thing, keeping going when so many other animals would have given up and gone home.
Points for perseverance, then, but none for intelligence.
