American football is directly derived from rugby. In the same way that baseball is just rounders with bells on. I know some Americans will take offense at that because the U.S. is meant to have invented everything but it’s true.
The one thing America seems to have added to the sports when converting them to their own is the addition of padding. Try playing football without helmets and see what real sport is all about!
This video shows some of the worst (best) rugby tackles ever made. They show that real men don’t need helmets and protective pads on every inch of their bodies.
Rugby is also a much faster and more fluid game than the American derivative, with none of this horrendous stopping and starting that brings any flow to an end before it even gets going.
And before you comment, basketball is just netball with dribbling.
