Victoria’s massive bushfires have made this week one of the darkest in Australia’s history. As I write 181 people have been confirmed dead, and the number is likely to rise to at least 300 as police sift through the ashes.
But there has been some happiness and hope in the face of tragedy. One of the most beautiful images was that of a wild koala, named Sam, who gratefully accepted a drink from a firefighter.
We’ve all seen the photo, but here’s the full length video capturing that iconic moment. As it was filmed on a camera phone the quality isn’t the best, but stick with it.
This is the sort of video that makes you smile, something I think we all need in the face of such a natural disaster.
Sam hasn’t been forgotten either. He’s now thriving in a local wildlife shelter. Who says there are no happy endings in times like this?
