“The US is on the brink of its first government shutdown in more than six years as politicians duel over federal funding.
“Democrats have repeatedly blocked Republican efforts to pass a bill that would keep the federal government open, with a late-night vote failing to get the measure over the line on Tuesday, local time.
“The shutdown, which was foreshadowed by US President Donald Trump in recent days, will see government departments closed and workers suspended.”
