“An eighth person injured in the shocking Ravenshoe cafe blast has slipped into a critical condition in hospital as the community struggles to cope with the fallout from the accident.
“Doctors said an eighth patient in the burns unit at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital had been reassessed as being in critical condition this morning.
“So far one person, mother-of-two Nicole Nyholt, has died out of 20 injured in the blast.
“A memorial has begun to spring up around the ruined cafe, with residents of the close-knit community leaving flowers and messages of support and grief.
“Donations are also beginning to come in through the website Givit.
“Officers are continuing to investigate whether the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 60-year-old Ravenshoe man Brian Scutt, suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.”
