Aborigines Vs Zorba The Greek Becomes YouTube HitA version of the classic dance from Zorba The Greek performed by an Australian Aboriginal dance troupe called ‘The Chooky Boys’ has become the latest sensation on video sharing site YouTube.

When the dance was originally performed, it was watched by only a handful of people at an indigenous festival in the Northern Territory last month, but now it has had over 120,000 views on the Australian YouTube.

The dance has only ever been performed in the Aborigine owned Arnhemland, but since the video became massively popular on YouTube, the troupe has had a swathe of invitations to perform it all across Australia.

A Speeded Up Zorba The Greek Video

The dance is performed by ten Aborigine dancers wearing just loin cloths and ceremonial body paint. This version is a speeded up almost clubby version of the original song and is a joy to watch.

More To Come?

Dance organiser Frank Djirrimbilpilwuy told the Daily Telegraph:

“It’s just amazing, we can’t believe it’s become so popular. It would be great to perform it in front of bigger audiences.”

The group also apparently has a Bollywood dance in their set, and are practising a cossack style dance too, so expect these to pop up on YouTube soon.

This just shows the power of YouTube these days. It can take a group of unknowns to the monitors of millions of people all around the world, and possibly a career to follow too.
