Awkward Obama Selfie At Mandela Memorial Video | Obama, Cameron, Thorning Schmidt

U.S. President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt were caught talking a selfie at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela.

This didn’t go down particularly well on either side of the point, but The Young Turks think the whole thing was a storm in a teacup. Especially the suggestion that Michelle Obama was none too happy with the supposed flirting.

When teenagers are caught taking selfies at funerals then they are rightly condemned, so these three — world leaders, no less — deserved the criticism they received.

However, as many have pointed out, this wasn’t a funeral but more a celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life, and so taking a selfie perhaps wasn’t so disrespectful as it initially appeared to be.
