Charlie Brooker is a very funny man, and probably the finest TV critic since Victor Lewis-Smith. After passing judgment on television in Screenwipe, he has now focused his attention on news coverage, with hilarious results.
This video sees Brooker take a look at the American media, particularly the big U.S. networks which don’t have any problem with wearing their bias on their sleeves. Whether liberal (MSNBC) or right-wing (Fox), they’re all bonkers.
Being liberal myself I personally can’t stand Fox’s news coverage. I’m gobsmacked every time I see Bill O’Reilly claiming his thoughts on a subject as facts. But there’s worse than him – Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck are clearly insane.
Hannity’s bad enough with his holier-than-thou attitude and squeaky voice. But Beck, my God, I didn’t know such people still existed in this day-and-age. The moment he (fake) sobs over his patriotism is the most cringeworthy piece of television I’ve ever seen.
I suddenly feel very sorry for Americans. At least us Brits have the BBC.
