Clay Adler’s death has stunned Hollywood, with star Jennifer Lawrence stating that she is “heartbroken” over her friend’s death. The two were friends for years. Adler, a reality star, was with friends on March 25 for a shooting trip before the MTV star turned the gun on himself, dying in the hospital the following day.
Lawrence knew the star for years, according to reports, but little is known about their relationship in recent years.
Adler starred in Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County for two seasons. He was photographed alongside Lawrence in 2007 at the Movieguide Awards. Radar Online reports that Adler received a memorial service at the beach.
Newport Harbor followed the lives of teenagers in Newport Harbor and southern California. Adler had a large role in the reality show, with his plot surrounding his relationship with co-star Chrissy Schwartz.
He also appeared on Make It or Break It and in The Fish Tank in 2009 following two seasons on Newport Harbor in 2007 and 2008.
There are no reports of a suicide note being found or the events leading up to the suicide.
TMZ states that Clay didn’t have drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of the suicide. The outlet did state that Clay suffered from mental health issues, which may have led to the shooting.
Frank Adler, father, did confirm that his son’s death was a suicide to People magazine. The Adlers donated Clay’s organs, as per his wishes, saving multiple lives in the process. Frank states that his son showed no signs that he was suicidal prior to his shooting.
Adler, an avid surfer, received a paddle out in Newport Beach on April 8. Friends and family attended the event.
MTV released a statement following the incident, stating, “We are saddened by the news of Clay Adler’s passing.”
