It was revealed yesterday that Barack Obama, President of the United States, has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. But does he really deserve it, especially after just eight months in office?

This video shows what Americans on the street think. Opinion seems to be mixed, with even some people who like Obama and voted for him wondering whether it isn’t just a little too early to award him this honor.

The Nobel Prize Committee stated that Obama had won for both his assurances that America would be trying to secure a world without nuclear arms and for his speeches since coming to office trying to foster peace and understanding between nations.

Those are certainly both great ideals but at this point it’s all just talk. Maybe in a few years time when the talk has turned to action and Obama has transformed the US into less of a pariah the award would seem more appropriate.
