Last night’s episode of Canadian Idol was one of the very best I can remember. Encouraging the judges to choose each song from The Beatles back catalogue was a stroke of genius. It gave many of the competitors their best performances, and it was tough to choose who I would show you.
But in the end I decided to go with Earl Stevenson’s amazing rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends.”
It wasn’t The Beatles version. It wasn’t even really the Joe Cocker version. Earl was unmistakably Earl, with his passionate delivery and soulful vocals.
I can’t even imagine who might be going home tonight after the stellar performances. But if it was to be Earl, it’d be a massive shame.
