Edward Current: The Net’s Funniest Atheist | Religious Satire YouTube Star

The first time I stumbled upon an Edward Current video, I like so many others, thought the man was a crazy hypocritical Catholic. On the contrary, Edward is perhaps the most popular atheist on YouTube known for producing weekly religious satire videos.

An atheist with a sense of humor? You have to see it to believe it…

Back in 2007, Edward made a little video titled ‘The Atheist Delusion’ in which he provided “indisputable Biblical proof that atheists are deluded and stupid”. Of course, after several hundred thousand views and a variety of heated comments he felt obligated to explain that the video was indeed satire.

Since then, the success and formula of Edward Current hasn’t changed. Usually once a week, he uploads a new video mocking religion in an animation, infomercial, or any other skit similar to those seen on Saturday Night Live. With over 50 videos and counting, it seems as if the man never grows tired of the subject.

‘The Atheist Delusion’

Here’s Edward’s very first video that eventually went on to surpass 800,000 views and cause him to become a YouTube star.

I stumbled on his videos by accident looking for eddy currents, which is a form of heat loss in ac power transformers as a result of magnetic induction. What a great find, this guy makes total fools out of the hard-core Christian conservative right wing and some of them believe he is one of them and shares their values. When I first saw his video I was fooled and thought this guy is a total nut job. But after a short time I realized it was satire and vary funny. The way he explains the Christian point of view as fact and then destroys this point of view by exposing the illogic and stupidity of it and at the same time doing it in a way that makes people believe he is supporting it is fantastic. Some Christians had forwarded his videos before they realized he was making fools of them. The best way to expose absurdity is to be absurd.
