George McGovern may now be remembered by many for losing badly to Richard Nixon in the 1972 presidential election, but he should be remembered for a lot more than that crushing defeat.

This video should do much to remind people what McGovern brought to the world, paving the way for Bill Clinton to become president, for starters. He was also a war hero and rights campaigner.

McGovern was a liberal who campaigned to end the war in Vietnam and to increase the rights of the poor and downtrodden. In other words the complete opposite of the Republican nominee Richard Nixon.

McGovern is survived by three daughters, 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. His wife Eleanor died in 2007, while he lost his son earlier this year.
