Citizen journalism has struck again, with the result this time being a guard on the London Underground losing his job. His crime was abusing an elderly gentleman for reasons that aren’t immediately obvious.

The video, recorded by a blogger on his phone, shows the incident, which amounts to a muted conversation and the guard’s unfortunate response to the passenger’s behavior. There seems to be no excuse for him talking to a paying customer in this way.

He refers to him as “a little man”, a “jumped up little git”, and “a little girl”. He then appears to shout, “Sling him under a train.” I can only assume the man was rude to the guard in the first instance but it’s not clear on the video.

The guard has now resigned from his job after the video was posted on YouTube and picked up by British news channels and newspapers. With that sort of attention, the guy had little choice but to go.
