It’s been an eventful weekend in Australia. Firstly earwax eating politician Kevin Rudd became the latest prime minister, and then Natalie Gauci became the latest Australian Idol.

Kevin Rudd’s victory came as little surprise to the nation, but Natalie’s win was a little more unexpected. Throughout the Idol competition Sydney teen Matt Corby was the odds on favorite to take out the series, but it just wasn’t his night.

Here Natalie sings her debut single, Here I Am. It may be the sort of cheesy torch song we expect from the Idol franchise, but it’s also a great showcase for Nat’s amazing pipes. Fans lap up these big ballads, so it’ll probably sit at the top of the Aussie charts next week.
