Rickrolling has been a huge Internet phenomenon, so much so in fact that it lead Rick Astley to be named as ‘Best Act Ever’ at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008.

This video shows Perez Hilton and Katy Perry announcing Rick had won the award, but unfortunately, Astley wasn’t at the ceremony in Liverpool to accept the prize.

Basically, MTV got Rickrolled in spectacular fashion by thousands of people voting for Rick to win the award online. it had to comply with the people’s wishes but didn’t actually want to be made stupid.

I think Rick Astley would have been there with bells on had he been invited so I’m guessing MTV was just trying to hide its embarrassment at being caught out so spectacularly.
