RiP : A Remix Manifesto Trailer (Video) | DJ Girl Talk Documentary

35 sec read

Having recently seen Girl Talk in concert, I was interested in how a DJ could spin mashups of other people’s music and still make money off of it. It had to be in a legal grey area and I wanted to find out exactly how he got started.

As it turns out, Girl Talk is part of a bigger movement called the “copyLEFT” which is a term used in this documentary about absurd copyright laws in the 21st century.

This entire documentary can be downloaded for free online, or you can pay for however much you want for it. That still doesn’t mean that it didn’t take months of work to make. Much like Girl Talk’s music, this documentary also falls into a legal grey area.

Having watched this film, I can tell you that it make one of the best arguments concerning copyright- when you limit what people can do creatively, you limit the spread of new ideas that can change the world.
