Have you ever wondered why people who live in the southern states of the U.S. speak with that peculiar accent? This video explains one theory, which suggests southerners aren’t as stupid as they’re stereotyped to be.
The theory goes that southerners have actually retained the accent their ancestors had. As in the people who settled in the area a few hundred years ago.
So British settlers elongated the words, which then morphed into that southern drawl, and French settlers slowed down the words, which then morphed into the Louisiana accent.
It’s a debatable theory, but a theory nonetheless. And whether you believe this explanation or not, the video is well worth watching for the narrator’s skills at switching between accents at will.
