It’s a fine line between backing a cause and being a menace endangering other people. It appears that the Sea Shepherd Society has now crossed that line, become more like terrorists than peaceful protesters.
This video shows that moment that the Ady Gil, a new, state-of-the-art speedboat is rammed and destroyed by the Shonan Maru, part of the Japanese whaling fleet.
The question is, of course, who to blame for the incident. The footage filmed from the whaling vessel appears to reveal that the crew of the Adt Gil only have themselves to blame, as they veered in front of the much larger ship.
The Sea Shepherd Society will obviously try to blame the Japanese, and use the Whale Wars show on Animal Planet to back up their claims. But I’m not buying it. They went too far and suffered the inevitable result.
I’m no fan of Japanese whaling, but this isn’t the way to change society. Plus, I find it strange how we assign different animals special privileges – are whales more worthy of protection than sheep, pigs, cows, turkeys, chickens, and all the other creatures we kill for food?
