Dan Savage is in trouble for a speech he gave to students at the National High School Journalist Conference in Seattle. He mentioned being gay in the same sentence as the Bible. Oh no, the world is going to end!
I find it shameful how quickly the Christian students in attendance left the hall. There was a mass exodus at the first mention of the Bible, and they didn’t stay to hear the message in context.
If they had done they would have realized Savage wasn’t attacking the Bible or Christians, he was attacking the double standards which have allowed things such as slavery and stoning to be abolished despite the mentions they get in the Bible, and yet being gay is still seen as a mortal sin.
I find it truly bizarre how homosexuality still affects people the way it does. It’s as though having sex with someone of the same sex as you is worse than anything else in the world. What a sad point of view that is.
