Last week Ashton Kutcher starred in a dating themed series of commercials for PopChips. While his fashionista character probably just offended Karl Lagerfeld, his Indian persona turned off an entire race of people, including comedian Hasan Minhaj.
Minhaj hits back at the commercials here, for their racism, but also their stupidity and lack of real wit. Ironically his video is a great deal funnier than Kutcher’s ads.
But in amongst the laughs there’s also a lot of truth there. Are Indians becoming the race it’s now socially acceptable to lampoon? Perhaps base comedy always needs an easy scapegoat. What are your thoughts?
