FIFA is finally being investigated, with the United States Justice Department launching a major operation against the organization. And about time too.
However, many journalists and newspapers have known about the problems at every level of FIFA for a long time, and John Oliver clued a lot of the mainstream in with this report last year.
Sepp Blatter has since stepped down as the President of FIFA after it became clear he was also being investigated. The fact he even stood again suggests he thought he was somehow above the law.
It turns out he isn’t, and I suspect he’ll get his comeuppance. In the meantime, there’s a power vacuum at the heart of FIFA, and no one seems clear how that will be resolved.
