Country music star Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins welcomed a baby girl into the world on Saturday at 10:28 pm. This is the couple’s second daughter. Ada weighed 7 lbs., 3 oz.
“Our baby girl is here. Sweet Ada James Akins came into the world at 10:28 last night after almost 36 hours of labor (only Jesus got me through that-& she is sooo worth it),” Lauren wrote in an Instagram post featuring a photo of her in the hospital.
Lauren says Ada is “so stinking cute,” and that her and her baby are resting. She thanked everyone for their prayers.
The couple has another daughter named Willa, whom they adopted from Uganda in May. This is Lauren’s first pregnancy. The couple had difficulty conceiving before Ada.
“We’re so excited that Willa Gray has a baby sister! Thank you Lord and everyone for the prayers #outnumbered,” said Thomas.
Lauren was preparing for labor on Wednesday, posting, “Yes, I’m bouncing on a birth ball trying to coax my baby out.”
Thomas and Lauren were childhood friends and married in 2012. The couple announced in February that they were expecting their first child and were in the process of adopting Willa.
“We tried to get pregnant for a little bit before,” said Lauren. “It was a good chunk of time and our family is extremely fertile, so I was expecting it to happen easily. I was like, ‘Maybe this is the Lord’s way of telling me adoption is what he wants me to do.’ And I was okay with that.”
Lauren added that the baby happened after they gave up trying.
Thomas says he is excited to get to know his second child, but says he’s “terrified about having a girl.”
“When she turns 13, 14, 15 and starts dating, that terrifies me pretty hard, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” Thomas said. “Three days ago was the first kick. It was pretty surreal to me. That made it all real!”
