In case you didn’t already know, we’re now deep into an economic downturn. Some people think this recession will be as bad as The Great Depression of the 1930s. If so, we all need to start watching our pennies.

This video shows the first episode of Depression Cooking With Clara, which shows 91-year-old great grandmother, Clara, preparing the kids of dishes her family were making during those difficult times.

Here we learn how to make a very simple pasta and peas dish. Clara’s YouTube channel also contains videos for Poorman’s Feast, Depression Breakfast, and a lot more besides. She even has her own Web site!

I’m not sure the recession is quite this bad yet, but maybe in a few years, if the pessimistic take on the whole thing rings true, it will be. What’s for definite is that champagne and caviar are off most people’s menus.
