Hurricane Gustav formed on August 25th, about 260 miles southeast of Part-au- Prince, Haiti and rapidly strengthened into a hurricane early on August 26th.

It is the second major hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season and has had a major impact on New Orleans and the surrounding area following the disastrous impact of Hurricane Katrina 3 years earlier.
