In case you haven’t noticed, we at WebTvHub are big fans of the word “free.” Especially when it comes to watching TV shows, quality web series, and movies.

So when we heard our friends at PopCrunch had made an “Ultimate Guide To Watching TV Online” we were naturally interested.

Networks like MTV, Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, FX, and Comedy Central all give out tons of content free of charge, you just have to know where to look. Granted, a lot of sites that offer popular shows these days are restricted to United States residents, but even resident of other countries can enjoy quality web content.

The website’s big idea is this: a team of around 25 editors scours the web each day to track down only the very best videos, ranging from entertainment and the arts to news and journalism, so that users don’t have to “trawl through all the crap” (as it so eloquently puts it) to find what they want.

With thousands of new videos appearing online each day, we’re not sure that Gloob.TV’s staff (picky as they are) will necessarily find everything worthy enough of adorning the pages of the site. Also, their opinions are completely subjective, so who is to say their choices would be in line with that of every viewer?

That said, the quality of the content is commendable, as is the presentation style, which is friendly and amiable. It’s just a shame that when push comes to shove, Gloob.TV’s claim of “instant garbage free video” doesn’t really hold water.

VeZoom.com, the site that claims to host the world’s most comprehensive video search engine has launched a new string to its bow in the form of MyVeZoom.

The service is a customisable extension of the VeZoom search function, which constantly monitors over 18 million hours of online video featured in over 60 online channels – wowza!

Web surfers can organise their viewing experience easily by category, then VeeZoom will work its magic to find content related to your chosen interests. Topics range from the obvious such as news, sport and entertainment to pretty much any user-generated or professional content you can think of.

One of the best features of MyVeZoom is being able to create custom channels by keyword. All you have to do is type in a subject of interest (a place, person, animal, whatever you like) and the site will scour the Internet for video content related to it.

Despite all the promise, MyVeZoom’s early days don’t come completely niggle-free. Most annoyingly, due to the high volume of results searching can be painfully slow. In addition, the site’s channel editing is simplistic in comparison to the likes of similar projects such as Second Brain and Particls.

Nevertheless, considering the sheer wealth and quality of media available on MyVeZoom, the future looks bright.

Megavideo, a new online video sharing site from the brains behind Megaupload claims that it’s a YouTube beater in the making. In a video on its homepage, the firm lists ten reasons why it is better than the current market leader:

1. Video publishers can earn money through a rewards program.
2. Publishers can also earn money through AdBrite in-video advertisements.
3. Users can move the playback position to anywhere in the video.
4. The website supports twenty languages.
5. The video player can be customised to match the designs of websites where you want to embed.
6. There is no maximum playtime for video uploads.
7. Video conversion takes no longer than 30 minutes.
8. Videos can be uploaded in batch.
9. Original video files can be downloaded.
10. “Megavideo loves you more than YouTube.”

Only seven of the reasons are truly valid, since YouTubers can skip to any point in a stream, can now customise videos to suit their websites, and the last point, well … is just a bit desperate.

The site is set out very much like YouTube, making it easy to navigate, but we wonder whether Megavideo is jumping on the video sharing bandwagon a bit too late.

Libraries have previously acted as small-scale free video rental outlets and now various libraries across the U.S. are beginning to offer the same titles as movie download sites, although the focus is generally on the special interest and indie film variety.

It would be worthwhile checking your local libraries website to see what video downloads they have available. Libraries all over the U.S are doing this including the libraries in the entire state of Wyoming.

Marshall Kirkpatrick of the SplashCast Blog has written an insight into using tagging to collect and share videos.

In this instance he is discussing tagging as the process of finding a video and bookmarking/saving it along with keyword/s. So for example you may find a cool Jim Carrey video and tag it as "Jim Carrey", "Actors" and "Comedy".

You can now use the video in your own library, or as part of a web TV channel you share with other people. If you or your friends wanted to see a library of Jim Carrey videos then that video would be added into the library since you tagged it as "Jim Carrey".

One thing that really annoyed me about YouTube was its inability to get videos to go truly full screen. The videos were always locked within your browser window and never took up the full space of you monitor, not to mention the fact going full screen restarted the video.

Now YouTube has solved this and offers a fluid full screen option. The full screen button now quickly resizes the video to take up the whole of your screen and you just simply press Esc to exit.

The full screen mode works in a very similar way to the StreamCast Player I talked about a couple of days ago.

So instead why not try ZamZar which works in a very similar way. In fact ZamZar is much better!

Blinkx Remote will let you know what TV shows are available to watch online for free (& legally) with a picture of a little TV screen.

Once again this is only available to people connecting from within the US, unless you know how to connect via a US proxy (I’ll show you how to do this sometime I promise!).

If you are a member of YouTube you can now start using a new feature called active sharing. This allows other people to see what videos you have been watching and what videos you are watching right now.

“When you start Active Sharing, your username will appear to other users on the videos you watch. A list of videos you’ve recently watched will also appear on your profile page.”

It’s a pretty simple feature that will help YouTube users find people who share similar interests and to see what those similar people have been watching.

Channels featured on TVUPlayer currently include CBS, ESPN, NBA TV, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, Comedy Central, Disney and more, including sports channels.

This already impressive lineup of channels is available from any internet enabled PC in the world and could potentially expand to include many more channels.

It is my understanding the system works where one person records live TV and streams it to the internet. This stream is then redistributed by other people who are watching the channel.
